Taebaek currently consists of 8 administrative Dongs and 17 legal-status Dongs. There are 182 Tongs and 940 Bans. The area of Taebaek is 303.44㎢, which incorporated 4 Ris (Wondong-ri, Sangsami-ri, Hasami-ri, and Jotan-ri) of Hajang-myeon, Samcheok-gun in December of 1994 into the area of Taebaek at the time of its opening in July, 1981. In case of administrative Dong, it was rearranged from 16 Dongs to 8 Dongs in September, 1998.
