Location

Mungoksodo-dong, Taebaek-si

Introduction

This valley is located within Taebaeksan National Park. The water from the summit to Sodo-dong and Yongjeong Well of Taebaeksan Mountain meets with the water that comes from valleys of Taebaeksan Mountain to create this valley. It has a gentle slope with distance of about 3km and has many rocks inside the water. The water is so cold that you can’t leave your hands and feet inside the water for over a minute even in summer.

If you go up along the valley, you can reach the summit of Taebaeksan Mountain. It is one of the paths to climb Taebaeksan Mountain.

The forests, cliffs, and strange looking rocks around the valley create a magnificent view and the water doesn’t really go low even in the dry season.

A small village existed along Danggol Valley and it used to be the base of shamanism due to a high number of shrines, the reason that village was called Danggol Village.

There were many temple and shrines such as Daewangam Hermitage, Baeknamsa Temple, Cheonjiam Hermitage, and Yonghwasa Temple before, but they were all pulled down and only the vacant sites are remaining.

Dagnggol Valley has the beautiful scenery of rocks including Sinseonam Rock, Byeongpungam Rock, and Janggunbawi Rock, which are hard to find in Taebaeksan Mountain.

As it has been designated as Taebaeksan National Park, many infrastructures including management office and convenient facilities for visitors have been developed with Danggol Valley as the base. Thus, many visitors stop by all year round to enjoy Taebaek Coal Museum, Shrine to Dangun, sledding slope, Taebaeksan Folk Village (condo-type), campgrounds and many more.
