It is the world’s largest coal museum that has the collection of the history of changes and historical facts of coal in Korea. It opened its door on May 24, 1997. The establishment of the museum provided a chance to look back at the achievements of mining labors, who worked as the leaders of industry, to understand coal better, and to review historicity of coal. Over 7,450 pieces of collections including rocks, minerals, fossils, machines, equipment, books, documents, folk records, and household items are displayed in the museum with area of 1,337㎡ (indoor 774㎡, outdoor 563㎡) that is composed of 3 floors above ground and a basement.
